The Perfect 80th Birthday Present!
One of the first women driving HGVs in the 1960s… and for her 80th birthday, we got her back in the cab. Meet Pauline!
Recently, we had the pleasure of helping Pauline celebrate a very special milestone. Pauline gained her HGV licence in the late 1960s during her early 20s, at a time when very few women were in the industry.
Licences at the time came with “grandfather rights”, meaning she was able to drive any HGV on the road. But Pauline didn’t just drive trucks, she helped shape the next generation too, mentoring many of the new drivers on the yard. Trucking has always been in her blood. Her parents started a fruit and vegetable merchant business back in the 1930s, which later grew into a haulage company in the 1970s. That’s where Pauline’s love of lorries began.
So when her 80th birthday came around, her family had one wish – get her back in a lorry. Our very own driver Stephen Trundle helped Pauline up into the cab and took her for a little tour, bringing back a lifetime of memories.
It was an honour for the BCD Logistics team to be part of such a special moment. Happy 80th birthday Pauline, who is still a trucker at heart.
